Senior Pastor

Rev. Dr. Selwyn Q. Bachus

Rev. Dr. Selwyn Q. Bachus was born in Helena, Arkansas but relocated shortly after with his family to Kansas City, Kansas, where his father still serves as pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Pastor Bachus accepted Christ at an early age and accepted his “call to the ministry” while a freshman in college. The former public elementary school teacher originally decided to work part-time in the ministry, but sensed the call to further prepare himself for full-time ministry.

Pastor Bachus received a B.S. in Elementary Education from Emporia State University, the Master of Divinity from the School of Theology of Virginia Union University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, and the Doctorate of Ministry from the United Theological Seminary of Dayton, Ohio.

Pastor Bachus served as the Senior Pastor of First Union Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia and the Shiloh Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio before being called as Senior Pastor of Salem Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He is married to the former Marla Shirley and has two sons: Selwyn Q. Bachus II and Myles Christian Jerome Bachus.

Pastor Bachus is a firm believer that a strong intimate relationship with God combined with a commitment to education has helped him to achieve in his life and he readily recommends this to today’s youth.

Pastor Bachus was recognized as one of the top 20 young pastors to watch in the nation by the African-American Pulpit Journal (Summer 2005). This year he will celebrate his 12th Anniversary as Senior Pastor of Salem and 32 years of preaching.

Pastor Bachus’ membership and affiliations include the following: National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.; Ohio Baptist General Convention, Statistical Secretary; Dayton Baptist Ministers Union; Baptist General Convention of Virginia; Tuckahoe Baptist Association of Virginia, Third Vice Moderator; Baptist Ministers Conference of Richmond, Virginia, Financial Secretary, Second Vice President; and NAACP Member.

Ananias “Markey” Montague

Ananias “Markey” Montague was born and raised in Chicago, IL. He has worked with Richard Smallwood, Ricky Dillard, Kim McFarland, Lyle Lovett and many others. He has also toured Europe spreading the Gospel through song. Ananias is currently working on a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Biblical Studies. His motto is “Be authentic in everything”.

Youth and Young Adults Pastor

Brandon Whitaker

Minister Whitaker has a passion for teaching and discipling both youth and adults in a relational way. He is committed to helping them develop a Christ-centered and biblical worldview that influences and impacts every aspect of their lives. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and graduated from Grace University in Omaha with a M.A. in Theological Studies. He has over 15 years of ministry experience mentoring and counseling youth and adults in areas of theology and academics. He has served in several ministry roles including teaching young adult small groups, youth pastorate and adjunct faculty instructor at Grace University teaching a class called the “Theology of Work” that focused on work and faith integration. He is married to Da’Quisha Whitaker, whom he met at Salem, and they are proud parents of two young sons: Brandon Isaac Whitaker II (“Duce”) and Elisha Nathaniel Whitaker.

Ron Coleman

Ron Coleman is a native of Omaha Nebraska and has worked in the Information Technology industry for over 30 years. Ron also has numerous years of experience with photography and video production and has been professional photographer for over 15 years. Ron has an Associate’s degree in Electronics Engineering Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Systems from Bellevue University.

Bryan Mattox

Bryan Mattox is a native of Omaha, NE and raised in Salem Baptist Church where he was baptized by Reverend J.C. Wade.  Bryan attended Northwest High School, later joined the US Army and has lived in a number of cities around the country. Bryan’s love for Omaha brought him back home where he earned a bachelor of science degree in IT Project Management.  His love and commitment for lifelong learning put him on track to earn his master of science degree in Contextual Leadership.  Bryan is devoted to the love of his life, Jerryce. He is active in churches and gives freely of his time and talents to help others.  One of Bryan’s favorite scriptures is The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27

Niccole Cannon Brown

Niccole Cannon-Brown was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska and is a lifetime member of the Salem Baptist Church. She graduated from Creighton Institute in 2002 with an associate degree in Info Technology & Web Design. She will be attending College of St. Mary in the fall to complete her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Leadership and Management. In her love for Salem, she also serves as the Wedding Coordinator, and volunteers her time to many organizations within the City. Niccole has the honor of being the wife to LeeAndrew and mother to FaLysa & Isaiah.
